Chile posted a current account deficit of $441 million in the second quarter of 2026, a sharp improvement from the $1.98 billion shortfall recorded in the same period a year earlier. This outcome reflected substantial net income payments abroad and a wider services trade deficit, partially offset by a larger surplus in the trade of goods.

Net income registered a deficit of $6.95 billion, largely driven by direct investment income. Net payments abroad under this category amounted to $5.81 billion. Income accrued on foreign investment in Chile totaled $7.42 billion, led primarily by mining companies, while income generated by Chilean investments abroad reached $1.61 billion.

The services trade deficit widened to $2.70 billion, as exports of services rose 3.1% to $3.00 billion and imports increased 5.0% to $5.71 billion. Meanwhile, the goods trade surplus expanded to $8.87 billion, and net current transfers recorded a surplus of $344 million.
