Hong Kong's unemployment rate, when adjusted for seasonal fluctuations, decreased to 3.8% in the three months leading up to October 2025, marking a decline from the previous three-year peak of 3.9%. The count of unemployed individuals reduced by 6,000, bringing the number down to 149,600, while total employment slightly receded by 1,500 to reach 3.67 million. This dip in the jobless rate was observed across numerous key economic sectors, with particularly significant decreases recorded in the retail, accommodation and food services, professional and business services (excluding categories like cleaning), the foundational and superstructure fields, and the financial sector. At the same time, the unemployment rate among young people (ages 20–29) fell to 7.9%, down from 8% in September, which had been the highest since October 2021. Looking forward, the consistent growth of Hong Kong’s economy, along with increasing business confidence and improving consumer sentiment, is anticipated to bolster the labor market. Nevertheless, certain sectors may still experience difficulties due to ongoing economic restructuring.
